UK REITs have been popular in the USA for many years now, and now UK investors are able to take advantage of the lucrative tax benefits this form of investment has to offer.
A REIT or Real Estate Investment Trust works in a very similar way to a PIF or Property Investment Fund. A Trust made up of numerous pooled investor's funds is used to purchase income property, and are then traded on the major exchanges much like stocks.UK REITs hold a number of benefits for prospective investors, not least of which is a generous tax break. More freedom is provided by the ability to invest in commercial property through such REITs, which can yield much greater profits than residential property investing alone, and the fact that UK REITs are highly liquid, meaning you are not always stuck with your initial investment choice for the long haul. Yields are paid regardless of share performance in the form of dividends. Although profit may not be as high in many cases as trading directly in stocks, UK REITs are far less volatile and are suitable for a comfortable long term investment.
